Our Naturopath's Guide to Keeping Well & Moving this Winter

Our Naturopath's Guide to Keeping Well & Moving this Winter

When we are feeling healthy, energetic, and resilient, we can take our health for granted. Yet, when a cough comes on, a head cold lingers, or our energy dips, we’re reminded: our bodies need support to keep up with the seasons of both nature and life itself.

Winter can make it harder to stay consistent with the habits that keep us well. But it’s exactly these practices that allow us to move through the colder months with energy, resilience, and ease – so we can actually enjoy what this slower, cosier season has to offer.

A side note: as I sat down to write this, I had not long come out of a conversation with a group of women, speaking about the demands and responsibilities of motherhood – the unconditional giving, often going years before her own wellbeing takes true priority again. Soon after, I came across the quote: “the best thing you can do for others is take ridiculously good care of yourself.”

So, may this be a gentle nudge, especially to the mothers, to check in. Where can you weave in small, supportive moments for yourself this winter?

Your Winter Wellbeing Reminders

Sunshine

When it’s out, soak it up. Vitamin D plays a critical role in immune function, helping the body ward off and respond to infections. Exposing skin to sunlight is the most effective way to maintain healthy levels. On overcast days, lean into vitamin D-rich foods like oily fish and eggs.

Sleep (and then more sleep)

We can do all the “right” thing – but if sleep is off, everything else is compromised. Quality sleep underpins the health of every organ, cell, and system in the body. Dim the lights in the evening, reduce screen time before bed and upon waking, and give your body the space it needs to repair, restore, and reset.

… for goodness sake, stop scrolling moments before you go to bed and as soon as you wake up.

Get Your Dose of Vitamin A, C & E

Guess what!? Incorporating beef tallow into meals and a daily dose of beef liver capsules should totally cover your bases here!

These key antioxidants help regulate immune function and protect the body from oxidative stress.

  • Vitamin A supports the integrity of your gut lining and immune defence
  • Vitamin C strengthens white blood cells and antibody production
  • Vitamin E supports respiratory health

Also found in colourful wholefoods like carrots, sweet potato, citrus, leafy greens.

Minerals Matter

Zinc, iron, and magnesium are essential for immune cell function, energy, and recovery. Keeping bone broth or bone broth protein on hand is an easy way to support your baseline daily intake. If you’re low in iron, targeted support like beef liver and spleen can make a meaningful difference.

Move Your Body

Movement supports circulation, lymphatic flow, mood, energy, and well… everything. Just like sleep, movement really is medicine. It might be anything from dancing in the kitchen, stretching between tasks, or getting outside for a walk… to targeted training. When we don’t move, everything becomes stagnant – physically and mentally.

Ensure Adequate Hydration

Hydration is foundational for digestion, detoxification, and overall cellular function. In winter, this often slips. A simple shift: sip on warm herbal infusions throughout the day to stay hydrated while also supporting your system with medicinal herbs.

You’re Sweet Enough

Refined sugar places extra demand on the body, impacting blood sugar balance, increasing inflammation, and weakening immune resilience. Where possible, reduce intake and opt for more stable alternatives. Try our Chocolate Bone Broth Protein as a nourishing, delicious, refined-sugar free hot choccy. OR add it to baking as your sweetener. Monk Fruit doesn’t impact blood-glucose in the same way sugar does. Think warming, nutrient-dense options that satisfy without the crash.

Pause & Perspective

Health isn’t the end goal, it’s what allows us to live well. In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to forget that. Slow down, look around, take it in. Gratitude isn’t just a mindset, it has a measurable impact on stress, which directly influences immune function.

Small, consistent shifts are what carry us through winter feeling well, energised, and steady.

Take care of yourself, properly. Everything else flows from there.

Wishing you vibrant wellness this winter,

- Emma, In-house Naturopath & Head of Nutrition
