FAQ
What is Tallow Balm?
Tallow Balm is a rich, lipid-based moisturiser made from rendered beef tallow. It’s designed to nourish, protect, and support the skin barrier using simple, biocompatible ingredients.
Why use tallow on the skin?
Tallow contains fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins that closely resemble those found in human skin. This allows it to work in harmony with the skin, helping to soften, protect, and support barrier function.
Who is Tallow Balm best suited for?
Tallow Balm is ideal for people with dry to very dry, sensitive or compromised skin, and anyone looking to simplify their routine. It’s suitable for use across all ages.
Can I use it if I have acne-prone or oily skin?
Tallow Balm is not non-comedogenic and may feel too heavy for some acne-prone or oily skin types. If you’re unsure, we recommend patch testing or using it on targeted dry areas first.
How do I use Tallow Balm?
Apply the desired amount to clean, dry skin. It can be used as a daily moisturiser, a final step to seal in hydration, or as an all-in-one balm where your skin needs extra support.
Can it replace my other skincare products?
For many, yes. Tallow balm can act as a simple, multi-purpose moisturiser. For most, it works best as a foundational step, supporting the barrier so other products can work more effectively.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin or children?
Yes, the simple formulation makes it suitable for sensitive skin and gentle enough for children. As with any product, individual tolerance can vary, so patch testing is recommended.
Will it clog my pores?
Because it’s a rich, occlusive balm, it may clog pores for some individuals with very oily skin or those prone to breakouts. It’s best suited to dry, compromised, or sensitive skin types.
How is it different from regular moisturisers?
Many moisturisers focus on adding water to the skin. Tallow Balm works differently, it helps seal in moisture and support the skin barrier using lipid-rich ingredients the skin recognises.
What does “occlusive” mean?
An occlusive is an ingredient that forms a protective barrier on the skin to help lock in moisture and prevent water loss. Tallow is naturally occlusive, meaning it sits on the skin’s surface and helps seal in hydration you already have. This supports softer, more nourished skin, especially in dry or harsh conditions.
What’s the difference between whipped and non-whipped tallow balm?
Whipped: More light. Air is whipped through the balm which allows it to spread easily, but because of that, it can feel less rich on the skin.
Non-whipped: More rich and thick (especially in cooler temps). It melts down as you warm it between your fingers and tends to feel richer and more protective on the skin.
