Words from Father and Personal Trainer Corey Baird

Words from Father and Personal Trainer Corey Baird

Please give us a rundown of who you are and what you do?

I'm a father of two children and husband to my super mother wife Jenny. I'm a personal trainer at Les Mills Auckland City gym and presenter for Les Mills Core on Les Mills +. I also run an international online business training and creating nutrition plans for clients from the USA, UK, China, Japan, Israel, Germany and many more countries.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day starts at 4:15 am with breakfast and a cup of tea, a drive to from Kumeu into Auckland City Les Mills gym and starting with my first client for the day at 6 am. Clients in the gym until 12 pm, lunch and then online client work until 2:30pm, Train, PWO shake (Mitchells Protein) 3:30 pm to 6:30pm father playtime, nappy changes, dinner-time/cook, bath time, story books, songs, hugs. Online client work 6:30pm -7:30pm. Snack Mitchells Protein Powder, coconut yoghurt, collagen powder and water, bed at 8:30pm - 9pm exhausted …asleep within seconds of head hitting the pillow.

How do you keep your health a priority in your day-to-day life?

Currently with playtime and hugs with family, a minimum of 7 hours of sleep per night, a high protein diet beside a truckload of vegetables, 3 litres of water daily, train weights 4 x per week and cardio 2 x 30 mins.

What drew you to your work as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and nutrition coach?

I was drawn to my work through from my love of movement quality and staying healthy. I'm always looking to improve my movement quality and my clients. My interest in nutrition came from my interest in healing my own skin. I had seborrheic dermatitis which plagued me growing up and can also do now as an adult if I don't look after myself. I saw many Drs and ended up seeing dermatologists which helped but never cleared it up. Until I started to study nutrition, I changed my diet and my skin cleared up. Like someone had wiped my face clean. From then my interest in nutrition grew with a huge focus on helping my clients work on being healthy and lean.

What is something that you have learnt about yourself in the last 6months-1year, as a trainer, dad, and husband?

I've learnt not to procrastinate and maximise my use of time.

What’s your proudest moment in your work and/or life so far and what are you striving for now?

The proudest moment in my life right now is having my 2 children. How fast did I grow up lol !!!! Now I'm striving to keep balance in my life with my family, work, and health. It's a continuous tedder-totter effect trying to get the balance right!

What about challenges and how you have overcome them?

My challenge right now is lack of time and maximising the time I have got. That means planning my days ahead and having to-do lists daily, and with children that don’t always go to plan.

What’s the best piece of advice you have received that has helped shape who you are today?

The biggest piece of advice I have received that has helped is to stay authentic in myself. That's when I live my best life and have a positive effect on everyone around me.

How would you spend a day to yourself with no demands? In other words, what do you love doing and what brings you joy?

I'd train more so I could fit more of whatever part of my training in that I was missing out on. I'd spend more time educating myself (everything health-related) and I'd watch an action movie every day! And have a walk on the beach or outdoors somewhere.

What’s your favourite way to have any of our Mitchells Nutrition Products?

Currently my favourite smoothie on the run is Salted Caramel Bone Broth Protein Power (4 heaped tablespoons), 1/2 an avocado and 2 tablespoons of coconut yoghurt all blended! Yum!

Evening snack - 2 tablespoons of Vanilla Bone Broth Protein Powder, 1 tablespoon of Collagen Repair and 2 tablespoons of coconut yoghurt.

Sunday Slow Cook - lamb leg, short ribs or beef brisket slow cooked for 8 hours with pumpkin, kumara, onions, garlic and Mitchells Bone Broth Powder! Heaven! The whole family loves this (baby Skye can only have the veggie part with bone broth all mushed up!).

Finally, what’s your favourite adventure sport?

It would be mountain biking! When I get the chance which is non-existent currently with two children under 3.
