A Nourishing Start To 2023

A Nourishing Start To 2023

After a welcomed care-free, and perhaps indulgent, few weeks, we sit down with our in-house Naturopath and Nutritionist to offer you 7 simple ways to gently stimulate detoxification and digestion to restore health, and re-establish nourishing routines as we ease into the new year.

Movement

Find ways to move your body that feel enjoyable and easeful, working towards increasing your heart rate and working up a little sweat. If it’s been a while, start small, with just 10-15 minutes at the same time each day.

Hydration

Our bodies are made up of 60-70% water, and are dehydrated long before our brain receives the signal we recognise as thirst. Water transports nutrients throughout the body, aids in digestion and promotes healthy bowel movements, regulates body temperature, facilitates pathways of detoxification, protects our joints, improves mental concentration and relieves fatigue. If you know yourself to not drink enough water, let this be a non-negotiable goal for this year. Start simply by starting your day with 1-2 tall glasses of water. Adding minerals and electrolytes can supercharge your water to further support your cells.

Nutrients & Liver Love

If you have nutrition goals for this year, we encourage you to count nutrients and focus on REAL food, rather than counting calories! The holiday season can mean a little more load on the liver, so what a perfect opportunity to implement daily detox support. The two phases of liver detoxification are dependent on sufficient intake of nutrients. Some key foods to focus on for phase one are whole grains (ideally soaked), dark leafy greens, and eating a rainbow range of vegetables. Specific amino acids and sulfur are essential to the efficiency of phase two so optimising protein intake is essential, as is regular intake of cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, and brussel sprouts). Mitchells Bone Broth Protein Powder is a great way to top up your body’s amino acid needs!

Soaked Chia & Flax Seeds

A great addition to your smoothies to help cleanse the digestive tract and promote regularity of bowel movements. Simply place 1 part chia to 1 part flax seeds in a jar, generously cover with water, shake well, and place in the fridge. This will last 3-4 days. Add 1-2 tbsp. to your smoothies.

Dry Skin Brushing & Contrast Therapy

Dry skin brushing and alternating between hot and cold in the shower to gently stimulate lymphatic flow and drainage. Dry skin brush before showering, beginning at the feet and using short strokes moving up the legs, torso, then arms, always towards the heart.

Mitchells Botanical Tea Blends

Our Digest WELL and Digest SOOTHE botanical tea blends are a perfect daily ritual  for digestion and detoxification support. Digest WELL is a blend of herbs traditionally used to gently stimulate and awaken digestion and promote proper detoxification, whilst Digest SOOTHE promotes digestive ease and comfort. For best results, use Digest WELL on waking and Digest SOOTHE as you unwind at the end of the day.

Restore Regular Sleeping Patterns & Prioritise Rest

This is essential to assisting energy and clarity in mind and body as you re-establish routines, as well as helping your elimination pathways! A simple (and science-based) way to start to sync your body back up for optimal sleep quantity and quality is to wake up at the same time each day and expose yourself to natural light first thing on waking. Brew your Digest WELL tea and step outside and take a few deep breaths looking at the brightest part of the sky available to you. This is not only for awakening but sets you up for sleepiness when it comes to bedtime too.
